Are you a glass half full type or not? Keeping a positive outlook in a fallen world can be tough. How you choose to look at things affects key areas of your life. Optimism like thankfulness is choosing to focus your attention on what’s good instead of what’s bad. Are you bringing light and hope to others or discouragement and despair?
Be a mind optimist. Start your day with gratefulness for all you have in your life. Thank God that you live in a free country with amazing creature comforts many don’t enjoy. Don’t forget the gifts and talents you and your family posess. Remember what makes you special. Give thanks for it, and pledge to use those abilities each day.
Be a body optimist. Loving yourself begins with your thoughts. Devote more time to keeping your body strong and healthy. Focus on the good things you’re doing: “I’m taking exercise classes twice a week.” I’m eating 3 meals and carrying healthy snacks with me throughout the day.” “I’m walking an hour 3 times a week.”
Be a money optimist. “Are you obsessively watching the news. It’s great to stay informed and active, but constant reminders of bad news may make you feel worse. Take action! First and foremost, get your own financial house in order. Save for your own retirement so you have less stress about your own future. If you’re called to make a difference through community action, align yourself with organizations and people with similar goals who are optimistic about the future.
